Cherry scraps and poplar scraps
Plaque: 24"h X 24"w X 11/2"d
Candle holder: 1 1/4" h x 29 5/8"w x 5 5/8"d
Designed in 2008

Concept:

This piece is a reinterpretation of a typical Menorah which is meant to instill permanency and organic warmth. It is comprised of two wood pieces: a plaque mounted to the wall and a horizontal piece that slips into the plaque. The plaque is made of cherry wood scraps, so as to impart a reddish warmth and is glued together in a pattern analogous to the sun. The horizontal piece (which houses the candles) is poplar wood painted black so as to emphasize the lit candles at night.
